AI visibility is whether an engine names your brand in its answer. Measure it question by question, engine by engine and language by language, keeping English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin Chinese separate.
The thing being measured
A link in a list of sources is not the same as being written into the reply. Visibility, as Loupe uses the word, is the second of those. The engine names your brand when a buyer asks which company to choose.
AEO and GEO describe almost the same work: getting your brand named in that answer. The fuller definition is on AEO agency in Malaysia.
In Malaysia that answer is not one answer. Buyers ask in English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin Chinese. A single score that mixes the three hides which market you are actually in.
Which prompts should you track?
Track the questions a buyer asks when choosing a company. That means comparisons, “best for” questions, and the problem they are trying to solve. Build the list from real buyer questions, not from whatever an automated tool pulls off the pages you already have.
If the questions are the wrong ones, every other number measures the wrong thing. A gain on a question nobody asks does not change who gets the work.
Why measure engines and languages separately?
ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek and Grok do not share one answer. Each draws on different sources, so the same question can name you on one engine and leave you out on another. A blended score hides where you are winning and where you are not.
Language works the same way. English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin Chinese are three shortlists, and they move separately. A gain in one is not a gain in the others. Bahasa Melayu AEO covers why the English page is not enough.
What a useful report shows
A short list is enough. The first measures show whether the work is taking effect. The last one shows whether it produced a conversation.
- Prompt coverage: the share of your buyer questions where your brand appears at all.
- Presence by engine: how often you appear on each engine for the same questions.
- Presence by language: English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin Chinese, reported as three readings.
- How you are named: recommended, merely mentioned, or left out.
- Citations: whether the answer points at your page as a source.
- Competitor share: who takes the sentence when you are absent.
- Enquiries: leads and customers who say AI is how they found you.
Names and citations show what to change next. An enquiry is what shows the work paid for itself.
Why one screenshot misleads
The same question can come back with a different answer from one run to the next. Models update, and the pages they read change. A brand counts as named when it keeps appearing, not because of a single reply you happened to capture.
A useful reading therefore has three parts: the question, the engine, and more than one run. A score built from one of those parts will move around for reasons that have nothing to do with your brand.
When the lead is mislabelled
A buyer who sees your name in an AI answer often arrives later. They search for the brand, or they type the address. Analytics then files the visit as organic, or as direct. The answer that introduced you never appears in the report.
Rankings and organic traffic still describe the list of links. They do not tell you whether an engine is naming you. Ask prospects and customers how they found you, on the form and in the sales conversation. Put that answer next to the question-level reading. One shows whether you were named. The other shows whether the name turned into a conversation.
What to ask for
Ask which buyer questions were tested, on which engines, and which pages the answers drew from. Ask for English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin Chinese as three readings. Ask how many times each question was run. A gain in one language, or on one day, is not a trend.
